VIENNA CELTIC 64 – RUGBY OBERÖSTERREICH 3

With perfect weather conditions and a full-strength squad Vienna Celtic went into this semifinal encounter against Rugby Oberösterreich as clear favorites. A hectic start to the game with numerous penalties against the home side helped the guests to gain momentum in the opening quarter of the game, but were never able to threaten the Celtic defense substantially. Celtic opened the scoring in the 8th minute after a strong run from Nr. 4 Stefan Psota finished in the corner by Nr. 11 Martin Barrett. With the lead Celtic found it easier to control the game and kept the scoreboard ticking, scoring another 4 tries before halftime based on a strong offloading game and physical dominance in the forwards. Halftime score 33-0.

Celtic started the second half in similar fashion turning the ball over straight after kickoff and scoring with a powerful burst over the line by Nr.5 Johannes Fiebrich. With strong substitutes coming from the bench, more and more holes opened up in the tiring Oberösterreich defense. Celtic scored another 5 tries in the game with Nr.14 Alex Caratas and Nr.11 Martin Barret crossing the line 3 and 2 times respectively.
